We are ever so pleased to announce that esteemed yacht builder Kelly Archer has joined the Dashew Offshore team. We’ve been working together with Kelly since 1978 when Kelly project-managed our first two Deerfoot designs (the original Deerfoot and Wakaroa) and we subsequently joined forces for several other Deerfoot builds. Kelly was our point man at TPI during the start-up of the Sundeer series, and then we worked together on the 78 foot ketch, Beowulf, the 80 foot ketch Condor, and the first FPB, Wind Horse. Long time SetSail visitors will know that Kelly was a consultant during the start-up of the FPB 64 program with Circa.
Kelly started out boat building as a junior apprentice with Salthouse Boatbuilders in 1968. By 1971 he was a shareholder and director of Salthouse, eventually becoming a partner and managing director. Under his own shingle Kelly, along with his wife Jos, have built a series of other yachts for experienced owners from all over the world (in addition to the projects he has done for us).
We consider Kelly (shown above with Linda Dashew picking out veneers for Beowulf) to be the best of the best when it comes to execution of high quality yachts.

In addition to technical expertise, Kelly and Jos are experienced cruisers, having voyaged many thousands of miles on their own and their client’s yachts. When you combine Kelly’s real world cruising experience with his yacht building background, and add in the fact that having worked with us long enough – 36 years at last count – to understand at the gut level our approach to design and construction, you will begin to understand why we are all so excited about this addition to the Dashew Offshore team.
As demand for our yachts and FPB designs continue to grow, Kelly will be our New Zealand-based team representative, coordinating our efforts with builder Circa Marine, and working with Todd Rickard and the rest of the Dashew Offshore crew to insure our clients continue to have a highly positive experience.
