The client is interested in following a number of suggestions made the the &#8220;Offshore Cruising Encyclopedia&#8221;, one of which is having both an electric and manual shutdown for his diesel engine. The local Yards are saying they&#8217;ve never heard of doing this and I was wondering how to contact Steve Dashew to see if there is a drawing or write-up explaining the linkage so that we can move this process along. I have no doubt I can &#8220;engineer&#8221; the idea but was trying to avoid &#8220;re-inventing the wheel&#8221;. One is by shutting off the air supply to the engine, with a butterfly valve in the air intake. The other is with a manual control fuel flow valve on the injection pump&#8211;where the the stop solenoid pulls. Both are accomplished with a Morse type of cable. In the case of the injection pump, the Morse cable pulls in parallel with the stop solenoid. These are actually easier to execute than to talk about. The only issue is how to make the cable\/injection pump fuel lever connection.
