{"id":14904,"date":"2011-01-19T02:01:13","date_gmt":"2011-01-19T07:01:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/setsail.com\/?p=14904"},"modified":"2011-01-18T12:47:06","modified_gmt":"2011-01-18T17:47:06","slug":"wave-piercing-power-cat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wave-piercing-power-cat\/","title":{"rendered":"Wave Piercing Power Cat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/SP-Wave-piercing-power-cat-103.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"SP-Wave-piercing-power-cat-103.jpg\" width=\"576\" height=\"222\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When we first started to think about doing an unsailboat for long distance cruising we briefly considered a power catamaran.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>We did not take this path for a number of reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Motion with waves from the bow\/stern quarter to abeam would be violent and uncomfortable on at sea.<\/li>\n<li>If capsized the cat would remain inverted.<\/li>\n<li>Cats are significantly more costly to execute than monos.<\/li>\n<li>The great beam brings with it restricted docking options.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But if we had done a cat it would probably have looked something like the boat in these photos (just bigger).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/SP-Wave-piercing-power-cat-105.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"SP-Wave-piercing-power-cat-105.jpg\" width=\"576\" height=\"384\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The wave piercing hulls, coupled with high wing clearance will enhance performance and comfort. Note the small pressure release on the bow wave.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/SP-Wave-piercing-power-cat-104.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"SP-Wave-piercing-power-cat-104.jpg\" width=\"576\" height=\"379\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The stern looks a touch fussy, perhaps a little low on volume (too low an aft prismatic in hydrostatic terms).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/SP-Wave-piercing-power-cat-102.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"SP-Wave-piercing-power-cat-102.jpg\" width=\"576\" height=\"324\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Note the long hulls relative to the interior space.
