A report on Balboa and the Flamenco Marina.

We’ve finished the paperwork dance (been measured and found worthy, checked by quarantine, visited by customs and harbor control) and could do our transit of the Canal as soon as two days from now. No delay heading to the Atlantic. Boats going to the Pacific are waiting six to eight weeks.

Wind Horse is on a dock at Flamenco Marina, a new, clean, if somewhat surgy facility which was just going in the last time we were here. Our tanks are filled to the brim (at US$3.72 per gallon), and now, after running 700 hours since midway through Alaska, fuel burn has averaged 6.4 gallons per hour at an average speed of just over 10.5 knots.

The trip down from California was 12 days and a few hours for 3000 miles. The most pleasant long passage out of many we have done over the years.

We’ll spend half a day tomorrow checking things in the engine room, and then give the boat a good clean, after which we are going to relax for a few days, and concentrate on coming to grips with the "Final Cut Pro" video software on the Imac computer.

We should mention that we are connected to the marina WiFi using our high gain antenna. The built-in unit in the PC did not do the job. This works well enough that we have been able to use our Skype phone from the boat. How cool is that!
