The stern extension is now welded on, with a short list of items to deal with before it is finished.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Work in the forepeak is almost completed and we are loading gear back in now. Cables for new electronics and alarms have been pulled, and by the end of the week we hope to have most of the miscellaneous items crossed off. The next two days are critical schedule wise as we need to complete projects in the basement and engine room so we can begin to wrap up in these areas.<\/p>\n<p>We won&#8217;t have it all done by the time we depart for Arizona, but the infrastructure for what comes next will be in. Speaking of \u00a0which we&#8217;ve been pulling cables for several Internet cameras in the engine room, the NMEA 2000 system, and an emergency pilot steering system that should give us \u00a0control of the pump sets without electronics. With the cables installed, if the way forward on electronics isn&#8217;t clear, at least we&#8217;ll be ready to go once we find something we like. In the next 48 hours we will decide if we want to add a second radar and if so which models.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"_MG_0337.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/MG_0337.jpg\" alt=\"_MG_0337.jpg\" width=\"576\" height=\"384\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And \u00a0now a word about the photos. Eric and JB (below) are taking turns fairing the transom, aluminum boat style, in preparation for welding. High spot? No problem, just get a big hammer.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"Wind-Horse-extension-3.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Wind-Horse-extension-3.jpg\" alt=\"Wind Horse extension 3\" width=\"576\" height=\"384\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The exterior welding being completed, the fun part begins.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"Wind-Horse-extension-1.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Wind-Horse-extension-1.jpg\" alt=\"Wind Horse extension 1\" width=\"576\" height=\"465\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The amazing thing about this process is that the aluminum for <em>Wind Horse<\/em> was cut and welded together eight years ago in New Zealand, and the extension, built last month by Circa fits almost perfectly.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"Wind-Horse-extension-2.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/12\/Wind-Horse-extension-2.jpg\" alt=\"Wind Horse extension 2\" width=\"384\" height=\"576\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These is just one problem. When we did the design work it was obvious there was a tolerance problem with the five inch (125mm) pipes and the side of the extension. Circa sent along a bit of pipe to weld on. When the designer was asked by the welders \u00a0about length and angle, he did not take the time to carefully consider the answer. Instead of 15 degrees this should have been thirty.
