Some of you know that I’ve been swimming through the seas of the music world for quite a while. Blame my parents for bringing me up on a boat with lots of great music: Janis Joplin, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, Stevie Wonder…Today I’m proud to say I’ve just added a new album to their collection. When you spend the greater part of your childhood sailing around the world, you can’t help but become enveloped in rhythms–rhythms of tide, waves, weather, and of course the rhythms of music from cultures everywhere. One of my earliest memories is of attending a grand party as part of “fete” in French Polynesia, where I watched and listened in awe as beautiful men and women swayed and sang in multiple harmonies to the beats and melodies of local drums and ukuleles.

The shot above was taken in Takaroa with close friends before an afternoon jam session. I’m the blonde topless kid.

My newest album is decidedly American, I think–full of roots and blues and folk; a couple of the songs are downright blue-grassy. But make no mistake, the gifts and songs of a lifetime on the water imbue themselves onto every tune. And for that, I am always grateful.

You can find the new album on iTunes, Amazon, and all major services. Check out all the details and order physical copies through sarahdashew.com.

P.S. Special thanks to my dad Steve Dashew for shooting my album cover!
