{"id":44615,"date":"2017-03-20T06:28:22","date_gmt":"2017-03-20T11:28:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/setsail.com\/?p=44615"},"modified":"2017-03-20T11:04:28","modified_gmt":"2017-03-20T16:04:28","slug":"fpb-78-1-solar-energy-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/setsail.com\/fpb-78-1-solar-energy-update\/","title":{"rendered":"FPB 78-1 Solar Energy Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"IMG_2230.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/IIMG_2230.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 2230\" width=\"1100\" height=\"825\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>FPB 78-1 <em>Cochise<\/em> has been anchored to the dock in Fort Lauderdale the past five days; we have yet to connect the shore power cord, the genset has not been used, and the batteries remain full.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"IMG_2231.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/IIMG_2231.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 2231\" width=\"1100\" height=\"825\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These ten solar panels, six forward and four aft, make this wonderful state of affairs possible.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"IMG_2234.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/IIMG_2234.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 2234\" width=\"1100\" height=\"825\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Conditions are far from ideal for solar generation. We are aligned with the path of the sun, the least efficient angle to reduce structure shading of the panels, it is mid-March so the days are only halfway to their longest, and the days have been partially sunny with moderate cloudiness.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"IMG_2227.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/IIMG_2227.jpg\" alt=\"IMG 2227\" width=\"700\" height=\"581\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Solar output has averaged between 375 and 600 amp hours per day (at 24 volts).<\/p>\n<p>We have been doing nothing extraordinary to reduce our power consumption. On the contrary, we have been a touch sloppy on turning electrical items off when they are not in use. In fact, Linda is using the washer and dryer as per normal.
