{"id":5426,"date":"2009-05-25T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-05-25T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/setsail.com\/?p=5426"},"modified":"2009-05-26T09:15:11","modified_gmt":"2009-05-26T14:15:11","slug":"alesund-norway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/setsail.com\/alesund-norway\/","title":{"rendered":"Alesund, Norway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are somewhat behind in our posts, and wanted to get in a few words about Alesund even though it is a week in our wake.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/alesund-norway-100.jpg\" alt=\"Alesund-Norway-100\" width=\"576\" height=\"306\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Alesund is our favorite &#8220;big&#8221; Norwegian town (so far). The harbor area is extremely tight, barely enough room to turn <em>Wind Horse<\/em> around, and high on the fun meter with 25 knots of wind blowing straight down the channel.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/alesund-norway-103.jpg\" alt=\"Alesund-Norway-103\" width=\"576\" height=\"432\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There is room for maybe a dozen moderate sized fishing vessels or yachts, the landscaping is lovely, and there is a bit of sculpture to titillate the senses. The &#8220;mall&#8221; with grocery store is a short walk (as is everything else).<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/alesund-norway-102.jpg\" alt=\"Alesund-Norway-102\" width=\"576\" height=\"403\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A devastating fire in the early 1900s turned the city to ash. Help from around the world poured in and by 1905 the city had been rebuilt.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/alesund-norway-106.jpg\" alt=\"Alesund-Norway-106\" width=\"576\" height=\"435\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As is common in many of the Norwegian towns we have visited there are large areas of shopping devoted to pedestrians.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/alesund-norway-101.jpg\" alt=\"Alesund-Norway-101\" width=\"576\" height=\"350\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lots of soft pastel colors are in use, with a very nice affect on this sunny day.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/alesund-norway-104.jpg\" alt=\"Alesund-Norway-104\" width=\"576\" height=\"560\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Coming from the Sonoran Desert in Arizona we were intrigued with this sweatshirt.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/setsail.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/alesund-norway-105.jpg\" alt=\"Alesund-Norway-105\" width=\"576\" height=\"412\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This young Norwegian artist had only recently taken up oils.
