The last few weeks of enjoying BEOWULF, while suffering a keen case of seller’s remorse.<\/div>\n

There’s a hint of Southern California fall in the air. The nights are crisp and dry, the mornings almost frosty. Most of our neighbors at the transient docks in Marina Del Rey are headed for Mexico. You can feel their anticipation and excitement, and see the look of triumph in their eyes. “We made it. We’re off. Finally going cruising…” <\/p>\n

We both feel the tug of the horizon. We’ve made so many fall departures for warmer climates over the years it seems unnatural to be staying behind. San Diego to Mexico, East Coast to the Caribbean, New Zealand to French Polynesia, South Africa to points North. Always with new places to explore, new friends to be made, new experiences to be had. There’s nothing like the mixture of a well stocked boat, a check list which has been reduced to a reasonable length, and the sharing of common goals with fellow cruisers to bring peace and contentment.<\/p>\n

And us? We’re getting ready to head to Catalina for a week of R and R, after Linda finishes giving tours to the cast of CSI Miami, a TV show which is being filmed on our dock in Chace Park.<\/p>\n

The last couple of weeks have been hectic. We hauled in Ventura, CA at Ventura Harbor Boat Yard (great boat yard, good crew, fair prices). BEOWULF has been sold and she was out for survey. Yesterday we did our trial sail. The quick sale took us by surprise – even though we made the decision to sell her several months ago, in the back of our minds was the thought we’d really go cruising again. But then we had three interested parties before the ads came out and the rest is history. BEOWULF will be going to a good home – she will be loved and well cared for – an important consideration as we are parting with a family member.<\/p>\n

And we’ll go on to other things. We’re not sure what just now. Every time we come up with an idea for a new boat and compare it to BEOWULF, well, it just doesn’t compute. We’d be tempted to replace BEOWULF if we could. But the combination of skills in the crew that was assembled to build her was a once in a lifetime occurrence (not to mention the poor odds of finding a comparable blend of Burmese teak for the interior). And the effort required on our part to put such a project together is so enormous that at this point in our lives it is not appealing. If you detect a hint of seller’s remorse, you are right. Both of us are feeling it.<\/p>\n

So we’re going to concentrate on enjoying the last few weeks of sailing this lovely little ship – while she is still our baby.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
