We’ve used rail mounted life rafts on many boats, although usually off the stern. This side mount has some potential problems:<\/p>\n

It is outside the rub rail so liable to damage if there is “operator error” in a docking situation.<\/li>\n
A knockdown on port tack means it is dragging through the sea.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Stern mounting is better.<\/p>\n
Note that when mounting the raft on edge there must be drain holes at the bottom for condensation to drain. And the canister joint needs to be seal to avoid rain and spray intrusion. Not all raft canisters are so made.<\/p>\n
