Flashlight Logic

Flashlight logic-100.jpg

We have a large, somewhat eclectic collection of flashlights aboard Wind Horse. The photo above is a sample of the various types. Each has a special purpose.

Starting on the right, the black LED flashlight is one of the $39.00 super bright units (dual AA batteries). When we bought it we thought the price excessive, but decided to give it a try. It has become the key go to light in our tool kit. The bright beam makes it much easier to see detail. We now have four aboard. One for the dinghy emergency bag, one for the electrical tool bag and another for the normal tool kit, and one for the interior (where we have to take care with its hard edges and weight).

The orange Pelican is just the opposite, a very weak light (double AAA batteries). We  use these under way. They reside in the galley, nav station, and in each stateroom.

The large yellow light, another LED, is in the middle brightness wise. Its rotund shape is easy to grip, and while not as bright as the first unit, it does get the job done. Its size and shape makes it particularly useful at sea as does its soft edges and rubber end caps. The blue tape tells us the batteries (four AAs) are weak.

The final (left) light is a headlamp. It comes in handy when we are doing projects requiring portable lighting where we need both hands free.
