Junk Rig Photos

We really liked the lines of this pilot house schooner, including the junk rig.

The battens appear to be PVC pipe. Cheap, but bamboo, the original batten material, will probably be longer lived (or fiberglass if you can find appropriate material).

One Response to “Junk Rig Photos”

I still have memories (almost nightmares) of sailing a family friend’s junk-rigged boat. It was a Rawson 30 (I think – certainly a full-keel 30-footer), big round mast, junk rig, with two big oars instead of an engine. We volunteered to bring it back from the Gulf Islands to Vancouver and spent most of the 3 days it took drifting slowly in the right direction. Then, when we finally got to English Bay, the wind picked up and we found that the growth on the bottom made maneuvering a problem. Docking was interesting…
