We previously wrote about some of the details of the FPB 64 anchor handling system. As Circa just sent us a series of photos of the main anchor (a 240 pound/110kg Rocna) being winched home we thought they might be of interest.
The keys with any anchoring sprit design are the following:
-
Rugged design, capable of taking the full breaking strength of the chain (in our case over 26,000 pounds/11,700kg) along with substantial side loads.
-
Self launching design.
-
Secure locking of the anchor at sea to keep it quiet.
The round stainless (shiny) axle heads represent the centers of the rollers. The down angle, in conjunction with the anchor shank design, creates a self launching system.
When the anchor is winched home it is locked against the underside of the weldment. Having stuffed the anchor on Wind Horse through many large waves we can tell you it stays nice and quiet!
