We have always been amazed at how much space it takes for electronics installations. Not the control heads, but the black boxes and various interfaces. Although we have continued to add space for this over the years, the quantity of gear aboard has grown even faster. With the FPB 64 we have finally caught up.
We are looking here at the bulkhead under the nav desk in the basement. As FPB 64 #1 has a very complete electronics package, including searchlight sonar and NavNet 3D, and it is all installed now,we think the space allocation is just about right.
There are two major advantages to this approach. First, the electronics are easier to install, which makes for a neater and less costly job. Second, as gear is updated or trouble shooting is required everything is out in the open.
