FPB 115 Survey/Science Mid-Deck

FPB 115 Mid Deck Commercial 1a

We’ve been hard at work wrapping up a myriad of details on the FPB 115. This is a brief look at the mid-deck as it might be designed for survey or scientific study employment.

FPB 115 Mid Deck Commercial 1b

With the main work spaces and computer stations in the pilot house, the main deck as shown here, is primarily for meals, relaxing, all hands meetings, and perhaps a movie on the 60″ TV.

It looks great as usual. On the day head, I would rather have the door opening outside onto the aft deck. That would stop smells from coming into the great room, and it would allow people on deck in wet or dirty clothes to use the head without coming inside.

    Hi Justin:
There will be a vent fan on the main deck head. Re the door, the corners of the house are structural and I doubt we could get plan approval with a second door, especially one in the corner.

    Hi Steve,

As always it is interesting to follow your process.
I’m curious if you’ve had input on upsizing the galley equipment to accommodate cooking for the the larger compliment. Your image shows what looks like a standard range. Have you looked at a larger commercial cooking appliance, serving warmers and buffet space as surely not everyone is going to be eating at the same time?
How about dishwashing, trash other similar issues with a large crew getting their meals?
I’m also curious about lighting. If your crew are working night ops, is there a way to block ambient light from others working in the galley of off watch on the mid deck?

    Cheers,
    David

    Good comment, David:
The basic concept is that within the defined spaces you can do pretty much whatever you want. That said, in the layout to which you refer there is allowance for a trash compactor, dishwasher, in counter warming coils, etc. The stove has not been upsized as it is thought that we have sufficient burners. But this could easily be changed.

Re night operations, these all take place in the pilot house and we have been told that lighting density on this deck, as long as it does not impact the view forward with light through the windows, is not a problem.

Just wondering how it would be looking at a 60″ TV from about 10′. Lots of head movement. Maybe swapping the table position with the settee.
