Here is a concept for dinghies worth pondering, an inboard well for the outboard. There are many advantages.
To begin with, you get a longer waterline, cleaner water flow to the prop, and protection for the outboard from nicks and scrapes when docked.
There is also a bit more volume for storage, and a clear area for a swim ladder or step to help getting back into the dink from a snorkel.
Although the dink is longer, the space on deck required is really no more than with the outboard tilted up.
If we were doing the dinghy on Wind Horse over we’d adopt this approach.

I’d put a full height “seawall” in front of the motor, otherwise your effective freeboard is only as high as that motor mount.

These things work great. I’ve done a few. Some down sides are Fumes, noise and water coming in from waves and wake when you stop. The right motor and a bit of a return on the well helps a lot.
Thanks for your great Site

Does the opening in the stern allow the motor to be tilted when beaching the boat?

Hi David:
Yes, the motor tilts in normal fashion.
