When we launched Wind Horse we a single 19″ monitor for the radar. Then we switched to 17″ and added a second monitor for sonar. Finally we added a third so the PC based charting system was aligned with the sonar and radar.
We have lived lived with the temporary installation for two years, and now we have a permanent solution.
Most monitors look good from the side, but suffer when you are not aligned vertically with your angle of view. If the monitors are angled for standing they will be dimmer when seated.
The photo above show correct alignment (we are hauled out now so there is no data showing on the sonar and radar).
And this one is when the monitor is angled too far back.
Our solution is to use a friction hinge mechanism so we can easily adjust the viewing angle for the height of eye of the watch and whether he or she is standing or sitting. It only took us 4400 hours of powering to figure this out.
