With this new website system it is easier for us to upload blogs and photos. We can share more of what we are observing, hopefully without boring you. We are now at 64 degrees North latitude. That’s 300 miles above where yachts normally cruise in Alaska, and where you can walk on ice in the Antarctic. Yet we are told that the green pastures, flowers, and lack of snow are typical for this part of Norway in mid-May.
Check this out. Not the depth curve, but the water temperature and coordinates. That is the Gulf Stream influence doing its thing. We need to enjoy this while we can as it starts to get colder a bit north of here.
We have been surprised by the quantity of huge wind turbines in Norway. With so much hydro electric power and North Sea oil it is hard to see how these make economic sense. The three locals whom we have asked say it is big corporations pushing them, not the locals. We’ll try and find out more as we go.
We have noticed small boat fishermen dress with a lot of wet gear. They respect the ocean. The rescue orange sleeves are particularly visible.
Just to prove you cannot be too general, this angler is dressed more for the lovely day we are having. We watched to make sure his outboard started, and being a Yamaha it went on the first pull. Of course he has the option of getting out of the weather with a nice cockpit cover.
Finally, we have been greeted by a family of Orcas. Dad came by first to say “howdy”, and then Mom, two babes, and what we think was an uncle or teenager.
