Tasiussaq, Greenland

Complete isolation and loving it. After anchoring in the dark, Steve & Linda awaken to a surprise in Tasiussaq.

Having worked our way into Tasiussaq in the dark, we had no idea what to expect when we awoke.

What we found is a magical fjord, with majestic mountains, our own stream, glacier…

…and an unbelievable variety of rock sculptures, of which this is but one example.

The sun even came out for the first time in days. We are totally isolated here. There are no other yachts or commercial boats within 40 miles, VHF does not work, and we love it.

Exploring in the dinghy, we are amazed to see how many different backdrops there are for Wind Horse as the wind swings her this way and that.

This series of at anchor photos were taken over a period of 20 minutes.

The views from onboard, looking around, are equally impressive.

It is easy to tell there is little (if any) traffic here. This young seal came right up to the dinghy. They don’t do this further north where they are hunted.

We’ve been moving awfully fast (even for us) trying to see as much as possible before the short Greenland cruising season comes to a close. We’re watching the North Atlantic weather, and it appears as if an opportunity could arise to cross to Ireland within the next week.

We’re going to hang out for another day, enjoy Tasiussaq, and prepare Wind Horse for the North Atlantic.
