We are always fascinated by the signs to be found in new destinations. London is particularly rich in material, starting with the example above.
There are more practical signs, such as these reminders to visitors from the Continent and New World that traffic travels backwards (OK, opposite) from what we are accustomed to seeing.
There is a lovely hotel next to our dock, a perfect place to have guests hang out while they visit. This photo proves that Londoners are not superstitious, or maybe it has something to do with the Tower of London being next door.
Greenwich is a short ferry ride down the Thames River, and home to all manner of fascinating museums.
They also have a real problem with ice cream vendors as these signs attest.
We are sad to report that the tea clipper Cutty Sark has suffered a fire and is being rebuilt. Given the safety rules we are not sure how much real work gets done.
Speaking of rules, the “tube” trains have a placard about what to do in an emergency. It ends with “do not do anything dangerous.”
We heard that Londoners were rude and unpleasant to deal with. Nothing could be further from our experience, which has been universally pleasant. The sign above this transaction says it all.
A welcome sign from the New World. More on this later. But for now know that we have found a source for crunchy peanut butter sans sugar and obnoxious oils. Our summer cruising plans are no longer in danger.
Seen on the Camden Canal, the universal sign for a good day to go boating.
This canal boat owner was doing what yachties do the world over on weekends, working on his iron genoa.
We are not going to speculate on the meaning of this sign, but it could prove interesting.
We are happy to report that this is the only graffiti we’ve seen so far.
