A quick review of your recommended cruising boats was interesting, but I was surprised to see the absence of the Tayana 42, 48, 52, and 55. I mention this as many brokers have said they are desirable, well-built cruising boats with reasonable pricing. While the designers encompass Harris(42) , Perry(48&52) and unknown(55), your comments are appreciated. I’m sure you have come across these boats. I omitted the Perry designed 37 Tayana as it has a bowsprit. Thank you, David
Hi David: Sorry to say I am not that familiar with the boats you mention. While I have seen them in anchorages around the world I have never taken the time to look carefully at how they are built, or their design ratios. That said, if you stay out of heavy weather, almost anything which floats will get you there–we’ve certainly known some folks who have done circumnavigating in totally unsuitable boats! However, it is in breaking seas when the design and construction issues become paramount. A final thought–I would take anything you hear from the good folks in the brokerage trade with a grain of salt. That goes as well for anyone associated with boat sales.
