The aft deck of the FPB 78 is a study in flexibility.
From a stored on-deck mode used in port, to a clear aft deck when at anchor, is easily accomplished in a couple of minutes.
Looking aft here from the galley, the engine room air vent serves as a BBQ center, with food prep area and sink integrated. This has quickly become a favorite chef’s spot, and will become the main cooking and washing up center in the tropics.
One of the great advantages here is the ample storage for specialty and oversize galley equipment, usually relegated on other boats to hard-to-reach, inconvenient areas. There is also additional room within for fishing gear, and a host of other items.
On the starboard side, at anchor, the 16’ AB inflatable sits out of the water on hinged support arms. Launching and retrieval from this position is quickly achieved by one person.
The swim step is commodious, with a large flammable stores locker on the starboard side. The port side locker on FPB 78-1 Cochise is being used primarily to store spare propellers, stern anchoring gear, hoses, shore power cords, and eventually garbage.

Are those roll up sun shades on the roof extension? Do they get tied off to the tops of the railings? Looking great! Love the storage of the dinks at anchor.

Hi Kevin:
Awnings attach to pipes which are housed in the davits.

Yes, our appetites are wetted, but those of use that will likely never get to operate one of these marvels let alone own one would love to see some more photos and shameless self promotion from 781.

Is that an awning or screen netting rolled up on either side of the roof extension going aft of the grill?
With the dingy’s in their davits outboard that real estate space back there is huge. Lots of possibilities back there.

Hi Shannon:
There are indeed awnings which extend from the framework overhead. These attach to pipes projected from the davits.

Quite possibly the best marketing pitch ever? =)

What are the dimensions of one full deck skid pad?

Hi PJ
Those are standard Treadmaster tiles. Too wet and cold to measure for you.

Steve —
Love the aft deck space. Two quick questions:
1. Is it safe to assume the starboard davits swing inboard and the dink sits on the davits inboard of the life lines during passagemaking?
2. Perhaps it is my monitor or operator error, but the bottom photo appears to show chain leading from the handrail cleat to some location overhead. I give up. What do you have chained there?
Thanx for the details. Les

Dinghy on top inboard, underneath at anchor.
